Asian Palm CIvet

In the 1980s, Tan Lai Fook from Raub, Pahang stumbled upon a durian tree in Gua Musang, Kelantan. Home to the Asian Palm Civet, it was referred commonly to names such as common palm civet, toddy cat and musang.

D197 was named after its place of Origin (Gua Musang), Musang King or its literal translation in Mandarin – “Cat Mountain King”. With its unique blend and complexity of flavors, it gained popularity in countries in the region, largely Malaysia and Singapore.

In recent years, durian suppliers and retailers have begun to differentiate between the grades of the Musang King variety.
